1. Ask for a transfer to another department if one is available or let your superiors know that if one comes up, you want to be considered.
Sometimes this is an option and sometimes it is not. However, if it IS an option for you to be able to transfer to another area, you might want to go ahead and take it. This way, you won't have to even bother with worrying about what you should do. It might be something that you don't want to do, however, it might make things easier on yourself and on your ex boyfriend as well.
2. Have a talk with your ex boyfriend and let him know that you don't want to complicate your work situation.
If your ex boyfriend needs the job just as much as you do, then he is probably going to be inclined to want to have a smooth situation with you and not to have any office drama come about as a result of the break up. You may want to sit down and talk with him just to see what his perspective on the work place situation is.
3. Use this as a perfect example of why it is not always a good idea to date someone you work with.
Learning from experience can be the best way to learn and if you are ever tempted to date a guy at work, remember this situation and use that as an example of why you might not want to do that. Even though that might not really help that much for this situation, preparing for future temptations can be a good thing to do.
